{Trip Report} Jackson Hole

Thanks for the love on my newly-organized accessory closet yesterday! I'm working to get the rest of the closet organized and hope to share with you eventually soon. Just when it was almost tidy for Winter, the season changed, and now ready for a big Summer swap. But we're still getting some pretty chilly mornings, so I'm holding off for now. Or using that as my excuse to procrastinate, anyway!

Earlier this month, our little family trekked up north for Spring Break. We spent most of our week in Big Sky with my brother and sister, but road tripped down to Jackson Hole for a few nights before flying home. Even though our time here was short, we found this darling western town completely charming.

Early March is a quiet season, which meant it felt like we had the place to ourselves. The ski resort was open, but most of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are closed to car traffic. We were able to drive several miles in, and since Jackson Hole sits literally at the base of the Tetons, the views are stunning from almost everywhere.

We lucked out with fairly mild weather, and not much snow in town, so I was able to forgo snow boots for the first time all week, and pretty much lived in my new Uggs. Can you believe this is my first pair ever?? I've heard people rave about them for years, but with the wide foot and flat heel, I found them so unflattering. #nooffensetoyouhardcoreUggwearers

When they introduced this new slim line, with a wedge heel, I decided to finally see what all the fuss was about. And oh-my-wow...I'm obsessed! They look almost like a regular bootie, but feel like heaven slippers! I have the mini-boot, but love the tall ones, as well. And hello, darling colors! I'm even wearing them around the house with shorts and pajamas!! #teamUgg

Since Jackson Hole is such a tourist town, pretty much anything goes style-wise, but I certainly fit right in with my hat and layers!

Travel Tip: The town is very small, with everything centered around the downtown square, and an all-day shuttle available, but if you want to explore the nearby National Park, you'll need a car.

{Where We Stayed}

We adored this hotel perched on the edge of a creek...each room is like a little cabin,
with their own patio & outside entrance. The location is quiet, but still just a few short blocks
to the downtown square & minutes from the airport or park entrance.
There are several trails & lots to explore on-property (kids loved that!),
& a huge, hot breakfast is included.

{What We Did}

*Town Square ~ This historic square is chock full of charm, restaurants & shops.
And of course, the iconic antler arches at all four corners.

*Grand Teton National Park ~ Only minutes away, the stunning park, with it's soaring peaks, is definitely the star of the area.

*National Museum of Wildlife Art ~ The largest collection of wildlife art in the country, with a great Children's Area, full of hands-on activities. The museum is perched atop a cliff with widescreen views of the Elk Refuge, so kind of like a two-in-one.

*Jackson Hole Playhouse ~ Historic, old-school musical playhouse with funny, family friendly shows.

{Where We Ate}

*Cafe Genevieve ~ Many of the restaurants directly on the square fill up with tourists, but we found the little houses just a block or two back, to be more authentic, beyond charming, & really delicious. This was our favorite meal in town...and don't miss the Pig Candy!

*Persephone Bakery ~ The cutest little Instagram-worthy spot, with amazing breakfasts, & the best grilled cheese of my life.

*Dornan's Pizza Pasta Company ~ What makes this casual place special, is the rooftop patio with views of the Tetons.

*Pinky G's Pizzeria ~ Tucked out of the way from the town square foot-traffic, this little dive has delicious pizza-by-the-slice.

We barely skimmed the surface of fun activities & restaurants, but my {Trip Reports} aren't meant to be a 'best-of,' as they only include the places we experienced for ourselves and would recommend to friends. But we saw enough of Jackson Hole to know we'd love to go back and experience the beauty in the Summer season, too. I'll probably still pack my Uggs...or maybe some of their darling sandals!

Have you visited Jackson Hole or Teton National Park? What should we add to our list for next time?

  3. Cassie,
    Hubby and I have been to Jackson Hole twice. The first that that Hubby took me there was for my 50th birthday which was 17 years ago. At that time you could ride snowmobiles into Yellow Stone which we did. Forty miles in and out. It was the best birthday ever! Jackson Hole is very special. The food is amazing. The Grand Tetons are majestic. We hope to go back very soon.

  5. My first thought when I saw the title was that I hope y'all found Cafe Genevieve. We went because it was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and it was our favorite by far. We were there in the off season, too--apparently it's hard to get a table in the tourist season!

  6. I'm from the Idaho side of Jackson Hole, so your post made me a bit home-sick...I think it is time to go visit the parents. :) Even growing up there, the Grand Tetons still take my breath away.
    So glad you had a great time. I'm biased of course, but it is the best town ever...

  9. We went to Yellowstone and then through the Tetons a couple of years ago! Still my favorite trip we have taken as a family. We also stayed at Creekside and loved it!! After staying in the old historic cabins in Yellowstone, that place was a treat! We loved Jackson Hole! We took in the local rodeo and did a rafting trip on the Snake River! So fun...can't wait to go back!
