One Outfit | Three Ways

If you saw Friday's Sugarplum Style post, then you know leggings have played a huge part of my life wardrobe lately. I think it's the combination of cold days, and the desire to be extremely comfortable, that keeps me reaching for them several times a week. Not to mention, the forgiving waistband. We won't speak of my holiday-induced need for elastic.

Since one outfit in particular...this turtleneck tunic and these favorite leggings...have been on repeat, I thought I'd share the different ways I've worn the combination in the past week. With just a few accessory swaps, I've managed to stay in the same basic uniform, and no one is the wiser. To my face, anyway.

This post could also fall under the Rule of Three, since in each outfit, I've layered on two to three items, not only to make it more stylish, but to create different looks. This first one includes my go-to Fall/Winter accessory...a scarf. Then I threw in a second pattern with a leopard cuff.

These warm neutrals of black, camel and cognac are my favorite color palette right now...maybe it has to do with the cold, gray days.

Fit Tip: These leggings are super opaque, so no skin, lumps, or bumps are showing through. They fit true-to-size, and I've washed and dried them several times with no problems. My mom is equally smitten with them, as well.

Fit Tip: When it comes to leggings, I'm in the 'Cover All Your Lady Bits' Camp...both in the front and back! So I always pair them with a longer top or tunic, or layer a long tank underneath. #aintnobodywantstoseeyoladybits

Speaking of, here's a cheesy joke for you...What do you call a camel with three humps? Pregnant! #seewhatIdidthere #asyouwere

For a second look, I dressed the outfit up with a black moto jacket and wedge boots, and took my leggings on the town. These black boots (on sale!) would be cute with it, too.

I kept the jewelry classic, with a little bling, for Date Night. I gifted myself these studs for an early Valentine gift...I thought I was worth the $4 splurge! Here's a similar pair for $12.

The final look is similar to the first, but I swapped the scarf for jewels, and kept the bottom-half streamlined with black boots.

Fit Tip: It's not necessary for your coat or jacket to be longer than your top...but I'd keep it within 4-to-6-inches of each other.

I love that you can wear this coat with collar up or down to create a different look. I'm so obsessed, I've already ordered it in black, and I'm exercising major restraint to not order a third. But really, $28???

Fit Tip: The coat runs small, so size up one or two.

Until I can comfortably return to jeans (and probably long after), I'll continue styling my favorite leggings with tunics (just found this cute one!) and a revolving door of accessories. Which was your favorite look? Where do you stand when it comes to leggings and lady bits?

  1. I'm one of those ones who had to size up two sizes in the camel coat- crazy!! But it's super cute and such a great deal!

    1. I did too! One size would have worked, but I like the added room of another size. :) Glad it worked for you!! xo

  2. Love all your outfits! I just recently received my leggings and I'm not sure I can wear them. I feel like I'm wearing tights and that I don't really have pants on. I don't know if it's because I'm just so used to the thickness of jeans or what. Maybe I need to wear them around the house before I take the look outside?

    1. It does take a little getting used to...like you're wearing PJs in public. But if you pair with a tunic, I promise you're good to go! Soon enough, you won't want to wear anything else! xo

  3. Love all the outfits! And why oh why have I never bought that coat? Today might be the day.

  4. All of your outfits are cute! I love my hue leggings that I got before Christmas but haven't worn they out of the house yet. My tops cover the bits but arm lifting could cause it to rise do I'm just not sure what's appropriate. On another hand I feel like if tops got longer then it's a dress and you lose the cute legging/tunic look. I did wear my leggings 2 days in a row and almost wore them today as well. And my leopard cuff gets wore ALL the time! I'm in love with it! That cost is cuuuute. I'm resisting the urge since I'm in Texas and don't wear coats that often as it is. If the price were to drop even more I'll probably cave. :)

    1. I think as long as you limit your dancing in public, with arms thrown over your head, you'll be fine! ;) And girl, I'm in Texas and wearing that coat everyday!! xo

  7. Love this! (and all your other style posts!) I have a suggestion/request - next time, could you put all 3 outfits in 1 graphic to save/pin? That'd be awesome!

    1. Thanks girlie! I usually put them side-by-side when it's a 2-part outfit, but this one got a little cluttered with 3. Hopefully the lead graphic with text works for pinning! xoxo

  9. I now say.. "does this cover the lady bits?" and "perfect length to cover the lady bits!" All because of you! I was shopping with my mom the other day and made one of those comments and she laughed out loud! Now I not only knock off your styles, but you phrases too!!

    1. Haha!! I love it...but be careful, sometimes my phrases get me the side-eye! ;)

  10. I've got to try the blackout leggings....I have the wide waistband ones and I really just am not crazy about them. I think my daughter has the ones you are wearing and they totally seem to have more coverage.

    1. I've not tried the other Hue ones, but these are thick like jeggings. This mama wants everything tucked away, without feeling like I'm wearing compression stockings. Know what I mean? :) xo

  11. How did you tie your scarf in the first outfit? I have been trying to recreate that look and have not been successful.

    1. Thank you! It's similar to the 'how to tie a scarf' post from last year (see the graphic in blog sidebar for link). Basically, I fold it in half to make a triangle, then roll it up starting on the wide-side. Leave just the corner unrolled, place in front, then wrap the ends around and back to front...tie once and tuck under the triangle. Does that make any sense?? Maybe I'll do another post for big scarves like these. xoxo

    2. That does make sense. Thank you!

  12. Love your outfits, as usual. Is the turtleneck sweater from today's post similar to the pink one you wore in one of the outfits from Friday's? They look similar.... do you like one better?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks Brandi! Today's turtleneck is a looser fit, so it drapes more, and has the tulip hem. The pink one has more of a cowl neck and is a bit more fitted through the body. I like them both, don't make me choose!!!! ;)

  13. Hi Cassie! Great style post! I have a question for you. I have several tops that have the Hi / Low cut but the front doesn't properly cover the lady bits. You mentioned you layer a tank top that would provide you with the coverage, which ones would you recommend? Many thanks! Sandra

    1. Thanks Sandra! I like the 'long and lean' tanks from Target. H&M also has some good long ones. xo

  14. All 3 of your outfits look great. That is a great price on the jacket.

  15. So cute and pulled together! And I can't tell you how fast I'm showing that hashtag to my 15 year old daughter tomorrow. She thinks I'm the ONLY one who cares about leggings and lady bits :)

  16. Would you say that the tunic runs big? Did you size down? Thanks. You are too cute!

    1. The cream colored turtleneck I'm wearing in the pics is true-to-size...but meant to be relaxed. I'm wearing an XS. xoxo

  17. Hi Cassie! I always love the outfits you put together--and most of the time I already have the pieces. But you help me learn to put them together in new and fresh ways. Thank you so much!!
