{One Room Challenge} Demolition Zone

Welcome back to Week 3 of the {One Room Challenge}! Before we dive in, I was glad to hear you loved yesterday's Look for Less post! Nothing like the thrill of finding a great deal, right?!

Now...back to the Living Room. Thanks again to Linda for including me in this fun ride...I'm so excited about all the participant's rooms, not to mention, love meeting the new readers that find their way here! #heyyall

Let's recap for those popping in for the first time, we moved to a new house this year, and at this point, only the Kitchen and Master Bedroom are complete, and the Breakfast Room and Little Miss's Room have been started. So we decided to tackle the first room you see when entering the house, the 'formal' Living RoomMy goal was to create the feel of a jewel-box, with deep colors, lots of glam, and of course, an element of drama.

Week 1 I showed the Before shots and room layout, and last week was all about the Design, Plans, and a big fat Hiccup.

Okay, now that we're all on the same page...let's get after Week Three.

That hiccup? Well, it resulted in three full days of chiseling, jackhammering, cutting and glueing. It wasn't pretty or pleasant...but these poor guys got 'er done, and the damaged floors were replaced. Which is actually fairly anti-climactic since we had new, dark hardwood floors to begin with.

Remember that this room has the world's largest wall, with not even a window to break it up? Okay, maybe not the world's largest, but at 14-feet wide by 10-feet tall, it's a big, blank span of wall. Our solution was to cover it wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling, with built-in bookcases!

Reason #478 why I'm grateful to be working with a professional designer on this project...Kristin drew the detailed schematic of exactly what we wanted!

The bulk of the unit was built off-site, then once the floors were replaced, they installed the bases and frame in the room.

They also patched the holes created from wiring the ceiling for a pendant light, and the wall for sconces.

As long as the electrician was here and we were making messes, I had him add an outlet between the windows...this will be our first Christmas in this new house, and I think that might be the perfect spot for our tree.

And reason #318 I'm grateful for Kristin?? She suggested adding outlets to the toe-kick of the built-ins for lamps! #genius

Hi Sugarplum | One Room Challenge progress

In delivery news...it was a busy week for UPS and Fed Ex. I also can no longer walk in my Dining Room, which has become the holding zone for all the furniture and packages. #victim #sarcasm

Hi Sugarplum | One Room Challenge progress

The paint arrived, and I've never been so excited about paint, or painting, before in my life! I've always wanted to try Farrow & Ball paint! And since there is no VOC or smell, even the full gloss won't be an issue. Any guesses where we're using this color?

Hi Sugarplum | One Room Challenge progress

Another teaser...the most gorgeous rug that ever was arrived. And I'm not exaggerating. This time anyway.

Hi Sugarplum | One Room Challenge progress

The pendant arrived, and I'm in love!! Except it's the wrong finish. #oops But the people at Crystorama could not be nicer, and the correct one is already on the way!

{Project List}

Built-in Bookshelves // Bases & frame installed
Lighting // Wiring done

Still so much to do, and we're already at the halfway mark of this challenge! #gulp Thank goodness I have Kristin to hold my hand, because my assistant keeps falling asleep on the job.

Hi Sugarplum | One Room Challenge progress

  17. I have no idea how to do the linky thing but I wanted to acknowledge the good help from your assistant. Mine, who is tiny but fierce, does a little more by rearranging the rugs in the living room every morning while she ferociously chases her treat until it succumbs. I look forward to watching the progress in yours.
