Sugarplum Style, Vol. 7

Happy, happy Friday! It's less than a week until Christmas...are you ready?! I hope to finish up this weekend so I can savor next week, and time off with the family. And unfortunately for my jeans, most of my family has demanded requested I bring Crack Bark to all our gatherings. Thank goodness for lycra.

Jeans have pretty much taken over my wardrobe lately...along with lots of layers...as you'll see in this latest round of Sugarplum Style.

Vests have become my go-to layering piece this season...I love how they add to an outfit, but don't add hot-flashes like a full-blown jacket can.

Dark sweaters look so fresh when paired with white jeans. See more options in Five Ways to Wear White After Labor Day.

I found this J.Crew look-a-like herringbone vest on Groop Dealz about a month ago, and I've worn it at least twice a week since. It always sells out, but I post it on my Facebook page whenever it becomes available. And PS, use HISUGARPLUM15 for 15% off when you shop!

Striped Turtleneck | Herringbone Vest (similar) | Distressed Jeans | Booties | Watch | Bag (similar)

First with stripes, and the next day I wore it with plaid and spots.

Polka Dot Sweater | Plaid Popover Top | Herringbone Vest (similar) | Skinny Jeans
Booties | Watch | Bag (similar) | Crystal Necklace (similar)

Stripes + Plaid never lets me down...or gets old, apparently. This top has a fun zipper back that makes it more interesting.

I've never been so happy about rainy days as I am now that I have rain boots!

I don't know why more retailers don't make dog sweaters.

Military Vest | Dog Sweater (similar) | Pink Gingham Shirt (similar)
White Jeans | Booties | Watch

Tip: For shirts that are a little short, or tend to ride up, layer a longer tank underneath. That's what I do for this one to make it appear longer.

Striped Tee | Distressed Jeans | Watercolor Scarf (similar) | Booties | Watch | Bag (similar)

Blanket scarves are a lot of material around your face, so I usually reserve them for dirty hair ponytail days.

This Fall was all about the plaid...but I think fair isle is taking over for Winter. And don't get me started about plaid paired with fair isle! Expect to see that combo on me next.

Fair Isle Sweater | Chambray Shirt | Flap-pocket Jeans | Knee Boots (similar) | Watch

You're likely starting to recognize many of the pieces I wear since they show up time, and time again...the key isn't to have more clothes, but to mix up what you do have in new and different ways. I hope these posts inspire new combinations from your closet!

  1. I mean, you couldn't be any cuter if you tried. And I'd know. I have GOT to get on the vest bandwagon. I'm trying one again next time I'm at the mall. You have definitely convinced me to give them another shot because you always look SO DANG CUTE!

  2. I truly love your style and how you mix things up! I need to try a vest too! I did find a blanket scarf the other day for my trip so I'm excited about that!
PS the crack is as EVIL as you said. I think I had too many pretzels but it's still amazing. Taking it to a party on Saturday and keeping it "locked up"in the garage until then!

  3. Thank you so much for all your style posts. I've been a stay at home mom for the last 8 years and my style (or TOTAL lack thereof!) is struggling! The links you provide for the individual items are so very helpful as I live in a rural area and shopping isn't always very convenient. PS-I totally plan on making your "crack bark" this weekend! Merry Christmas!

  7. HI Cassie,
I love your blog and personal style...such a great read every morning. What I have to approach you about it difficult for me, but somehow, even though we do know each other in real life, I think you will understand. When you refer to something that is so good that you cannot stop is like crack, an illegal drug, I cringe and a huge hurt comes over me. Do I know it is just an expression? Of course, but it just bothers me that a mother, wife, and downright great blogger uses this term. People struggle with addiction daily, hourly, minute by minute. People who read your blog may have addicts in their families, and I just think this expression is insensitive. You know your neighbors, children's teachers, etc. all could read your blog and referencing and illegal drug, funny or not, is just tasteless. I honestly think you have never ever thought about it or needed to, but, trust me, every time I read the reference I cringe. Cassie, it is beyond insensitive and lacks class, which you clearly do not, but by doing this, opinions may change.
I hope you understand where I am coming from. Drug addiction hurts families beyond belief, and by you making light of it, it just hurts.
All the best, and I look forward to seeing a response.

    1. Hi SFB...I'm truly sorry if you were offended by my light-hearted reference. However, you are incorrect in assuming I'm insensitive and uneducated to the heartache of addiction. In fact, Mr. SP is a substance abuse therapist, specializing in addiction, so it's a daily topic in our home. I've lived through it with others, as well. But even in the Big Book, addicts poke fun at themselves, and using humor about the addition is a healing part of recovery.

Truthfully, we all likely suffer from some sort of addiction...be it alcohol and drugs, food, power, control, materialism, etc...and making light of it helps us laugh at ourselves and the human condition. This recipe is in fact addicting...I am incapable of walking away from it! And I challenge you to make it and see how you respond! ;)

I'm happy to discuss this further if you'd like...especially given the fact you say we are real-life friends...but I'd appreciate if you'd email me directly instead of using this public forum. happy saturday!! xo

  9. Hi. I love your red striped turtleneck and followed the link, but it went to a JCREW puffy vest. I'd love to find one similar if you remember where you got it! Thanks!

  10. I love your looks. I love layers too. I'm a southern girl, layers are key. I have to tell you though, if you can wear a puffer and a scarf all day inside a building with heat without looking like a sweaty mess, you're better than me! I end up stripping myself of both typically within one hour. And I even tried layering the vests with a thin tee, didn't help. I guess I'm hot natured. How do you stay cool?

Your comments are like popcorn with milk duds, I just can't quit them. Thanks for taking the time to share your positive thoughts! xoxo, cass
