{Look for Less} Hunter Wellies

Thank you guys for the kind words on my hair tutorial yesterday...I'm thrilled that you found it helpful! I've been putting that post off for ages because it felt so awkward to have my giant noggin plastered all over, so I'm relieved to know it was worth the embarrassment. ;) I replied to the questions in the comments section, so be sure to check back.

Today I'm excited to share a Look-for-Less that I recently discovered! I've been eyeing Hunter rain boots for a few years, but could never justify the price...especially in our climate. Our seasons aren't exactly harsh. Or that's what I kept telling myself anyway. But I can't tell you how many times in the previous years I've thought, 'Dangit, rain boots would be perfect for today!' Not to mention so dang cute for Fall &Winter outfits! I mean, seriously, isn't this picture of layered goodness?!

Fall Layers with Rain Boots

So when my mom asked what I wanted for my birthday, I started thinking about those darn Hunter boots again, and their cute boot liners. But together they are a whopping $178! The more I looked at them though, I realized the socks fold down and cover up the label on the boots.....

Hunter Wellie + Sock Combo High End

And the sock is all you'll feel on your foot anyway, right?! So why not pair a no-brand rain boot with the cozy Hunter socks??? Bam! Look for Less! So I sent my mom these links, and this combo is on the way to me now! #happybirthdayme

Rain Boot + Hunter Sock Look for Less

Of course I went with hot pink, but these adorable options made the decision hard!

Affordable Rain Boots
a. Stripes // b. Spots // c. Dogs // d. Plaid (only $29!)

I am in no way dogging Hunter boots...I'm sure they are amazing! And if I find $150 in the laundry, I might still get them. Heck, I just got a pair for my daughter! But I'm not willing to pay top dollar for plastic boots whose whole purpose is to help you trudge through the elements. #justsayin

I'll be sure to let you know how my Look-for-Less version works out. In the meantime, what are your thoughts on rain boots? Do you own Hunters? You can't deny they are awfully cute!

  2. Really great idea! I scored my Hunter's at Nordstrom on sale for around $70 a few years ago. I have never seen them that low again so glad I snapped them up!

  3. Um, this is genius. Thank you for solving this issue for those of us who can't justify the price of Hunter wellies.

  4. Wow, I can't believe how much the look for less boots look like Hunter's! Brilliant idea using the Hunter boot socks! I would like to point out, though, that Hunter's are made of good, quality rubber, not plastic. :-)

  5. Cassie you are a genius! I live in CA and we get very little rain but whenever it does rain (like, TODAY!) I am kicking myself for not getting rain boots! These are awesome and so are the socks! Thank you! Love your blog!

  6. cute alternatives! i have a pair of hunters but it rains all the time in charleston -- and they were very useful for wet winters in chicago! xo jillian

  7. Cassie you always fab finds my way! Thank you! I love the look for less - I used to watch that show years ago :) I actually purchased a pair of Hunter's last winter and where them as snow boots here in Ohio. The price was rough, but I do wear them quite a bit. I recently purchased a look-a-like pair in red for $40 and I think I like those better! Lesson learned! Of course I want more colors and such so this post is perfect! I am adding them to my wish list now :)

  8. I, too found some at 'nordstrom' rack for under $100 in an awesome teal color. I wear the heck out of them (w/ ugg sheepskin insoles) up here in SW Michigan! But the sock idea is brilliant. :)

  9. Love my hunter wellies, but I hear they are not as awesome as they used to be now that they are made in China. But, they are still made of quality rubber. I gave into the fad after my target fake uggs got holes in the bottom , which wasnt bad until it was rainy and cold. I had cold, wet feet for the entire day and was miserable. This memory was what pushed me to buy the Hunters. Fyi, you can get colors on sale frequently but I got mine with a Piperlime coupon.

  10. Oh, my gosh! SO many of these are on my favorites list today! I love it. I am a Hunter girl but think this idea is genius. The pink boots are darling.

  11. What a great idea! I live in Seattle, so when I moved here two years ago I splurged on a pair of Hunters, but this is so smart. A trusty pair of rain boots really works wonders, especially if the ground gets soggy or muddy. Boots like these are super cute, plus they last forever.

  12. Amazing idea. I have one pair of Hunters but really want more colors, but couldn't justify the price. I cannot wait to do this.

  13. You get what you pay for. Cheap boots will not last through years of rainstorms, but for occasional use I am sure they'll be fine.

  14. I love the idea! I'm wondering where you the plaid red scarf is fun in the picture at the top of your post! Thank you!

  15. Costco occasionally carries them...I got my navy Hunters at Costco (Seattle) last fall for $80. Now...I need the socks! :)

  16. I got my red Hunters several years ago at ...Marshalls! For a whopping $20. I still need liners/socks for them, but I wear the heck out of them during the winter months walking from the parking garage to my office in the snow.

  17. I got a pair of Kamik rain boots after I couldn't fit my calves in the Hunters and they are just as cute, for like one third the price. And they are Canadian so you know they can handle some weather! Mine have the little shield on the side which gives them a little extra. http://www.kamik.com/b2c_us_en/women-boots-rainboots.html

  18. Costco actually has Hunters for $80 right now online! Navy and olive green! Such a great price!

    1. Thanks so much, Ashley! I had seen them in the store but had very limited sizes so i was so glad when i was able to order a pair!!

And Cassie, i love your blog and all your outfit inspirations! Thank you so much for sharing all your tips with us!

  19. great idea! I have the originals. Hopefully the boots you are linking to are the right height for the socks. I think the Hunter boots are taller then other wellies (from my experience) and the socks only fold down so far. :o)

  20. I just said I need rain boots. Nashville doesn't get enough rain/snow to justify pricey rain boots. Plus the name brand don't fit my larger calves. Thanks Cassie! Such a good idea.

  21. I agree...there are a lot of other things I would rather spend my money on! And being that it rains a couple sprinkles here and there, I don't exactly see the need!

  22. I can't wait to hear what you think! Please share a review...Santa may need to deliver these!

  23. I just bought that scarf at Target...before I saw this post! I love when that happens :) I was so excited to wear the scarf that I went out with the hubby to get gas just so I could wear it, lol! And I love the idea of the Hunter socks with the less expensive boots. I'm definitely going to do that.

  24. I can't justify paying that either, but I love the look of them! I bought a really cute pair of Ralph Lauren rain boots this Fall at Macy's on sale for $65! I love them too! Here is the link to them if you wanna take a peek.

  25. I actually own two pairs of Hunters. They were gifts from my partner. I have the Huntress in the classic green and then I have pillar box red short boots. The second ones were bought to be used as snow boots, but I keep forgetting to buy the boot liners/socks for them. They are 100%wortj the money and I kinda really want a yellow pair.

  27. Good idea, friend! Always using that noggin ; )

  28. Hooray for looks for less. We don't get a ton of rain here, but it's always useful to have some thrifty wellie choices. :] // ▲ itsCarmen.com ▲

  29. I think I'm a tightwad when it comes to plastic boots, but won't hesitate to drop tons for leather shoes! I can't justify spending even $50 for wellies. I think this is partially because Central Texas has drought conditions! I did however find several really cute pair on Amazon for around $35 a few years ago and I was able to put them to good use last winter.

  30. What a fabulous idea! I can't believe I never thought of that. I have been dying for pair of Hunter's but just can't pay that price either. So last spring I bought myself a pair from Target ( they even have the side buckle and a few people have asked if they are Hunter...until I show them the front...lol ). Living in Canada the addition of the socks would be great! Thanks for the tip.....these socks are now on my Christmas list :)

  31. The black shiney Hunter boots with the grey cable Hunter socks will be under the tree for my daughter this Christmas. But thanks for the sock idea - I may have to do that for myself!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Love the striped pair you showed! Of course we buy for our kids what we wouldn't get for ourselves. ;)

  33. That is ingenious. I rarely comment on posts, but seriously, that Hunter boot sock thing with non-Hunter wellies is pure genious. Kudos to you for being such a smarty pants!!! :)

  34. Costco Hunter boots update - DO NOT buy them online through Costco. I ordered mine the day you posted this and I just got an e-mail 2 days ago they were cancelling my order because they were out of stock. Absurd! Better to buy them in stores there than online!

  35. OK. I could care less about my style. However, I am loving what you wear!!! This is so perfect--a knit top with a vest, scarf, jeans, and boots. It is simple but SOOO stylish. Why can't I do this instead of wearing my exercise pants every day? Ahhh, because I am not a cute, little petite thing like you. :( LOVE your boot idea!!! I will have to get my daughter onto this one. I spend money on Hunters for my daughter too. Oh, the money I spend on my kids clothes! I guess I am making up for my 5 turtlenecks and pants from Sears when I was young--so I am told by my mother. Just LOVE your style! I am off to find some bargains and if I hit 1/2 the look I am going to be far better than I was!
