An Artist's Gallery Wall

We've slowly been making changes to our daughter's room...not a design overhaul, but small tweaks that reflect who she's becoming. She was so young when we first created her Big Girl Room that she didn't have many opinions about it, but now she's developed her own interests and we want her room to be her personal sanctuary.

Like most little girls, she loves a lot of things, but horses and art are her main obsessions (as evidenced by three straight years of art themed birthday parties). So we first took down the Paris prints, and replaced them with an over-sized DIY framed horse print. Next we filled her wall with a gallery of her favorite art projects.

She's been in an after-school art class for awhile, and I hated that all of her fun, colorful creations were just sitting in a pile. I used my standard method for designing the layout, then tacked the pieces she chose on the wall with Command strips and sticky tabs.

She added assorted strips of washi tape to the corners for a more playful look. Washi doesn't have much staying power on the walls, so the Command tabs are key for actually keeping the art in place.

We finally found a solution for all the stuffed animal 'lovies' that she has a penchant for collecting, too. I gave her this basket and said she could keep as many as would fit, and the rest needed to be donated. There were some deep discussions as to who got to stay, I'll tell you that!

Isn't this telephone desk the cutest?? I want to recover the seat eventually, but it's so sweet in her room.

It's perfect for little girls with big imaginations.

Since the gallery wall is fairly unstructured, she'll be able to add and replace new pieces as she wants. And I know I'm biased, but they are pretty impressive, right?! How do you manage all the artwork? What about the stuffed animals?!

  1. She is darling and so is her room! Love the little gallery wall and so happy to hear some one say that washi tape is just for looks. No way does it hold up anything on my walls!

  3. She is quite talented. It would be a shame to hide her art in a box!! Girl, if you only knew how many stuffed animals my two girls have! And, they are 21 and almost 25. LOL

  4. There is always a huge civil war when it comes time to get rid of stuffed animals. A few months ago, we actually dumped all their stuffed animals on the living room floor and made them go through them. A lot were donated to Goodwill. My daughter has a stuffed animal hammock in her room, so she got to keep as many as would fit in there.

  12. I think what I love about this the most is that I can see your influence on your daughter. Clearly she sees how creative and colorful you are and enjoys it just as much as you:) You are such a great mama to highlight her art. And I seriously love all your fashion posts…you are so beautiful (inside and out).

  13. This is awesome! Your daughter is so talented! Don't you love how you can continue to add to it? It's like she lives in her own art gallery!

Quick question - where do you donate your stuffed animals? No where in our town will take them. :( And, I'm as bad as the kids with getting rid of them unless we know they are going to be loved some more. I feel like I'm in the middle of Toy Story! :)

    1. Thanks so much, Holly! I've dropped them off at both Goodwill and a local Children's Advocacy Group. I guess you could always wash them and donate to a daycare???
