Sugarplum Style {Vol. 4}

Happy hump day, lovebugs! We had an 'accidental' bathtub overflow at home, so we're dealing with 10 industrial fans and 2 child-sized dehumidifiers...along with a lot of noise and stink. But I'd rather talk about fashion than water damage, wouldn't you?! I usually dress up for my day job, and share many of those in my {Outfit Inspiration} posts, but I love casual, colorful, everyday style just as much...as showcased in this Vol. 4 of Sugarplum Style.

Wishbone Necklace (similar) | Triangle Necklace | Watch | Chain Bracelet

Swing Tank | Lace Shorts (similar) | Flip Flops | Necklace

Cobalt Dress (similar) | Pink Bangle | Yellow Sandals (similar)

Striped Top | Shorts | Flip Flops | Tassel Necklace (similar)

Striped Top | White Skirt (similar) | Wishbone Necklace | Yellow Sandals (similar)
Ring | Cognac Bag (similar) | Arrow Cuff

This isn't a traditional Sugarplum Style pic, but it was so popular on InstaGram and Facebook, I thought I'd share more details. I was at the mall scouting outfits for a friend (I love dressing other people!!), and stumbled on these two amazing skirts. The floral is an obvious choice for me, but I've never considered a midi skirt, simply because I thought the longer length wouldn't be flattering. But I quickly changed my mind, and am on the midi skirt train now! It's got a nice conservative length for work, but is chic and sophisticated for social events, as well. (Side note: my skirt is actually red and the top is light pink.)

  1. Darling as always! Our tub almost over flowed, the youngest turned the water on while I was cooking and I walked back in the bathroom to see it 1 inch from the top- hope the clean up happens quickly for you!

  4. I love both skirts that you tried on and I love midi skirts, BUT they are not the same thing! MIdi skirts are traditionally more challenging to style because they are much longer than those pictured, typically falling to at least as low as the widest part of the calf and definitely way below knee-length.

    1. Technically, a midi skirt is anywhere from just below the knee to just above the ankle...not a mini or a maxi. :) True, that's a pretty big range...but the website also refers to this skirt as a midi, so I wanted to keep consistent to that. :) xo

  6. Curious about your thoughts/opinions of Old Navy. inotice a BUNCH of items this time. While I think they have some cute/on trend thing, I find they are a "wear once or twice" deal, and they lose their color, shape, fabric looks very worn... and then I am bummed, and they sit in my closed because they don't look so hot. What are your feelings on what you will spend/more/less on, etc.

    1. Hi Andrea -- you bring up a good point, but I am a big fan of Old Navy...specifically their price points. I don't find that they wear out any faster than higher priced clothes from J.Crew or Gap, but I'm not as mad when it happens because I didn't pay J.Crew prices for them. Tees and shorts that I'm going to wear repeatedly for a season, I'm okay replacing after a few years. I only invest in non-trendy items that will get years-long wear...like boots, coats, jeans. But even when I shop higher-end stores like Nordstrom, you've likely noticed I lean towards the lower priced items. It's what my budget allows, and they usually aren't pieces I have the desire to keep for 10+ years. But honestly, I have just as many 5+ year old pieces from Old Navy in my closet as I do any other store. :) xo

  7. I just love your style!!!! And I am so happy you mentioned that your skirt is red, it looks hot pink in the pics and ever since last week when you posted it on instagram I have been stalking that skirt like it's my J-O-B! I kept wondering why the link took me to a red skirt, lol! Your fashion posts always inspire me, thanks so much!
