Fall Mantel & Glittery Gold Votives

No sooner than I had the Halloween Mantel up, it was time to transition it for Fall. And the same will be true for this mantelscape, since Christmas decorating will begin in a few short weeks! We're hosting a small family Thanksgiving dinner, so as excited as I am about Christmas, I don't want to give Thanksgiving the shaft. We'll be able to enjoy the calmness of Thanksgiving and simple decor before madness takes over.

I started with our Thankful Tree because I love the height and bright color. The rest is pretty simple, some left over from the Halloween Mantel. The grapevine pumpkins, previously used on the Halloween Porch, are from Target's Dollar Spot. The Ikea sheepskin throw makes for a cozy spot to sit in front of the fire (assuming it cools down another 50 degrees!)

Mini pumpkins are stacked atop brass candlesticks for varying height. Something in the brass reacts funky with the pumpkins though, so be sure to check them frequently for rot and mold. I actually keep small squares of paper towel under the pumpkins so they don't make contact with the brass.

The gold votives were a quick and easy project....I swirled metallic gold craft paint around the inside of a clear glass votive until it was fully coated, then secured a strip of gold Greek key ribbon around the outside with double-stick tape.

The paint wasn't dry when I took these pics, so there's no lit candle in them. But at night, it's a nice, warm glow. (Kind of like my gold-lined lampshades!)

Creating this mantel was so fun because I didn't have to work around a big gaping hole in the wall!

So while the shelf-life of this mantel may be short, it will be the perfect backdrop for our Thanksgiving table. Which, by the way, I haven't started, but I do have fun placecards to show you tomorrow! What Thanksgiving stuff are you working on?

*** Big ol' $200 MirrorMate Giveaway going on, too. Don't miss your chance to swank your mirrors! ***

  1. I love all these trims and laces you find to wrap around things. The candles are really cute.

  2. If the votives are gone when you get home.........the greek key made me do it. ;)

  3. I have to do placecards too so I'll be back tomorrow to check out yours! ;) I'm like you, trying to wait till after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas! Your fall mantle looks great and no hole!!!

  4. I've been so busy I've missed out seeing your home changes...that mirror is new and amazing! Is that vintage? I'm so busy picking up after everybody all the time I never have time to decorate for the holidays. Might go ahead and get a jump start on xmas...

  5. Just used that same ribbon in my post today! Ha! Mantle looks great! I really need to get something going for mine!

  6. Love how you switched up the mantel...looks perfect for Thanksgiving! :)

  7. Decorated candles are always so pretty! But I'm always hestiant, maybe because my friend's dad is a firefighter. Isn't painting the inside of a candle dangerous??

  8. So festive Cass! I've decided to skip tgiving decor this year after having the halloween up all month. Looking forward to xmas decorating, though I'll probably take it easy this year as bringing it all down with a new baby does not sound like fun...

  9. what a pretty accent piece! i love your fireplace!! xo

  10. So gorgeous Cassie - What a talented gal you are! xo

  11. Girl when do you find the time to do all this decorating?? I only have one kid and can barely find time to fold the laundry (and drink my wine at night, priorities). The mantle looks great!

  12. Beautiful as always - and the votives are a cute touch!

Your comments are like popcorn with milk duds, I just can't quit them. Thanks for taking the time to share your positive thoughts! xoxo, cass
