{Christmas} Displaying Cards

I don't know why, but checking the mail is one of my favorite things to do each day. Especially around my birthday and Christmas! You just never know what little treasure you're going to find inside the mailbox, and Christmas cards are definitely treats. (And anything beats getting bills!)

I typically pile the cards in a bowl on the kitchen counter, but you don't really get to enjoy them much that way. And since we lived in Nashville for 10 years, we have many long-distance-friends whose cards I really look forward to and want to display.

I came across this method on a blog, but can't remember which one. If you know, message me so I can credit them! Simply tape a pretty ribbon to the front of your kitchen cabinets, then pin your cards to the ribbon:

Now I can see all my friends and family every day!

Is everyone late in getting their cards out, or what?! I went ahead and prepped other cabinets for more cards I hope will come. I think it's super cute...my cabinets look like presents!

I loved when Emily posted her family's previous Christmas cards (she's only getting more gorgeous with age!), so I thought it'd be fun to do the same (this blog does serve as my personal scrapbook, after all). I could only go back as far as 2004, since our camera had actual film in it before then.

2004: Only 1 kid...life was so cake (of course we didn't realize it then)!

2005: Christmas Beach Bunny -- I decided Mom and Dad couldn't compete with this face, so we stayed out that year:

2006: Our family was complete with the arrival of Babygirl! We kept the silly family shot since I figured it was a pretty accurate image of us!

2007: Some people have family portraits made for their cards..but I tend to gather pictures that sum up our year...milestones, travels, personalities, etc. In 2007, Babygirl was a happy toddler and loved everything about her big brother, and Mr. Sugarplum and I went to Greece (it was a great year!):

2008: We lucked out with a Backyard Family Wedding this year...so I was able to get some 'real' pictures of us. I'm sure Babygirl will be thrilled with her topless (Siesta Key) pic someday!

2009: I do actually sign our Christmas cards, I just blacked the names out for blog purposes. This year had no potential family pictures, so there's a picture of the kids on the beach in Destin, and me and hubby at a friend's wedding in Puerto Rico:

And 2010 -- This year we had a great snow, a Family Trip to Sanibel (if you think I'm posting a family pic on the beach, you are ca-raz-ay!) and Mr. Sugarplum and I ran off to Banff!

Thanks for indulging my walk down memory lane, I can't wait to see what 2011 has in store for us! How do you display your cards? Do you send one out every year?

  5. This is a great idea!

I never know what to do with ours besides putting them on the refrigerator, and it always drives me crazy because they slide around and I don't like the cluttered look of them :)

This is very creative and cute!

  15. I sent my family and friends a Smilebox (http://smilebox.com/) this year for Hanukkah. I guess I couldn't choose just 2 or 3 pictures of my little man, I had to send them 17! :) Does that scream '1st child' or 'new mother' more?
ps - thanks for visiting today!

  18. Great pictures! We usually display ours on two doors in our hallway. This year I think I might add the ribbon though. The girls JUST took their pictures yesterday...now to get them to pick which ones they want to use...like that'll happen.

  27. So fun to see your family grow up through the years. You are one pretty girl my friend! I like how your cards reflect your family's personality so well. This year, I'm like you in 2005- we can't compete with the baby face, so no pics of us! And I like your friends' big golden retreiver in their pic!!

  30. y'all are adorable.......the partner and i don't take pictures often...vanity :) so our family portrait would simply be the outfits we would have worn in the picture laid out on the bed ...

  34. I ordered some fun ribbon over the weekend to do something similar to display our cards. I love keeping them out where I can see and enjoy them.

And your family is so adorable. It was fun looking back at your cards over the years!

  35. You'll have another card to add to your cute cabinets soon! I'm displaying cards on a little 3-tiered jewelry display that I have in our kitchen, but it doesn't hold many - we've only gotten 4 or 5 so far, and it's almost full! You cuties are front & center, though!

  36. I LOVE this idea! I usually make a swag of cards over a large window but I always have more cards than I can fit there. I'll be adding cards to my kitchen cabinets this year. Thanks for sharing!
