{Halloween} Making a Ghost

Halloween is kind of a big deal in our house, so I'm dedicating this week to showing you the decor we whipped up to celebrate.

I can't claim this craft project since my aunt used to make ghosts out of her old bed sheets.

(Bonus points if you can spot the 'Redrum' twins! Guess who just upgraded her picnik account?!)

I purged all non-essential bed sheets this summer, so I bought the cheapest white cotton fabric available for my ghosts. These are made from muslin for less than a $1/yard!

Here are the steps to this cheap, 5-minute craft:

making a ghost collage

1. Lay out your fabric
2. Wad newspaper into a ball and wrap in plastic grocery bag -- I added the plastic step for a little extra protection in case of rain
3. Place the bag in the center of the fabric and wrap it around. Tie it off at the base of the 'head'
4. Use a permanent marker to draw your face -- We opted for friendlier ghosts

We placed a safety pin on the top of their heads so they could hang straight down (as opposed to around the neck, which looked as bad as it sounds), and hung them from the tree with floral tape (because that's all we have):

They look really cute, and the lightweight muslin blows easily in the breeze.

Added the 'Enter at Your Own Risk' banner from the Dollar Store for more Halloween obnoxiousness.

Pretty fun for a buck, right?!

  2. Brings back memories. My Granny used to make those with us to hang in our yard, along with napkin covered lollipops with ghost eyes to give out to trick or treators! Great picture!
